» Troubleshooting thermosiphon reboilers

Thermosiphon reboilers supply the required heat to distillation columns in the process industry. While operating personnel expect reboilers to reliably supply this heat under a range of operating conditions, operators have a limited understanding of the performance limits. When columns perform poorly, reboilers are often considered the culprit. Pinpointing the problem not only requires knowledge of column design and operation but also expertise in thermosiphon operation.

» Pushing thermal boundaries

Our Research & Technology Center (RTC) offers an unmatched testing environment. This point is exemplified by highlighting one of our largest units, the Prototype Test Unit (PTU), which is capable of testing thermal performance as high as 1 MW in power. With this unit, we can develop and validate a broad range of thermal and hydraulic correlations that are key for optimal heat exchanger design. Currently, the first phase of our differential condensation testing is nearing completion. This phase tasked us to  empirically demonstrate whether differential condensation can be realized in an industrial E-shell condenser.
