» Data centers: Innovations to handle increasing heat loads with limited cooling resources

Electricity demand from U.S. data centers is projected to double or triple by 2028, driven largely by GPU‑intensive AI workloads that generate significantly higher heat loads. To manage this growth and reduce strain on public utilities, industry and research efforts are focusing on advanced heat exchanger designs, waste‑heat utilization, and improved operational analysis.

» New research addresses use of microchannel heat exchangers in process industry

MC-1 Microchannel Heat Exchangers in the Process Industry examines the different types and shapes of microchannel heat exchangers, as well as the challenges faced in industry-wide adoption of the technology. It also reviews printed circuit heat exchangers (PCHEs) and evaluates the feasibility of using Xpfe® to model PCHE performance. Comparisons with experimental data show that Xpfe can predict heat transfer and pressure drop within the limits of its existing correlations, providing an interim modeling approach until PCHE‑specific methods are developed.
