» Improving models of falling film evaporators

Tubeside falling film evaporators (FFEs) have many advantages compared to other types of vaporizers and reboilers. In more recent years, HTRI has significantly improved our predictive methods for pressure drop and heat transfer, especially in the annular-mist flow regime, including criteria for liquid film breakdown and dryout.

» New research report

Developing effective fouling mitigation techniques for crude oils requires a fundamental understanding of particulate matter in heat exchanger flows, as well as experimental methods that accurately measure particle sizes and concentration distributions. F-30-TR Evaluation of Measurement Techniques for Crude Oil Particles examines various particle characterization techniques, including flow imaging microscopy (FIM).

» Things are smoking at the RTC

A newly acquired smoke machine provides an abundant amount of clean, white smoke that can be manipulated and directed as desired with the use of hoses and manifolds. With this new machine, we can study the flow patterns at the inlet of air-cooled heat exchangers, gaining insights on airside maldistribution and auxiliary blockage effects.
