» Alternatives to TEMA baffles

The standards of the Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Association (TEMA) describe three baffle types: single segmental, double segmental, and no-tube-in-window (NTIW). Used for decades, these baffle types capture the high heat transfer coefficients for cross flow over a tube bundle. Two recent trends necessitate additional studies for alternative baffle types.

» New research report offers insight on the behavior of inline static mixers

Inline static mixers promote the radial spreading of momentum and heat and are thus useful in enhancing heat transfer, especially in viscous laminar flows. TE-7 Review of Intube Static Mixers for Heat Transfer Applications includes classifications of these mixers based on their construction and presents some coarse correlations of heat transfer and pressure drop for concept studies using the f- and j-factor input fields in Xist®.
